## Series Structure
The series is conversational — thesis, critique, revision, expansion:
- **001-002**: Initial ideas (session 1)
- **003**: Adversarial review (Claude's rebuttal)
- **004-005**: Revised papers incorporating critique
- **006**: New material from Seth's raw observations
- **007-008**: Dependency reversal, knowledge unification, identity problem
- **009-015**: Research-backed expansion (session 5) — each paper grounded in 4-6 research files from the 35-file corpus
## Key Ideas Introduced Sessions 2-4
1. Y2K as AI dependency parallel
2. Cognition as commodity with collapsing price
3. The Automation Spiral (fourth future)
4. Niche construction — vibe coders modify the environment
5. Meta-skill argument — modeling novel cognitive systems
6. Dependencies ratchet forward, never permanently reverse
7. Infrastructure/application threshold — AI in the transition zone
8. Premature dependencies hibernate, not die
9. Biological ratchet — neural pruning, metabolic efficiency favor dependency
10. Seven allegories mapped to the chain
11. Dependency chain as knowledge unification process
12. Singularity as compilation, not transcendence
13. Ship of Theseus for the species
14. "Did we cheat?" — every link was cheating by previous standards
## Key Ideas Introduced Session 5
1. **Stochastic Parrot Problem.** Bender/Gebru critique addressed head-on. Unification reframed from destination to velocity. AI simultaneously unifying and homogenizing — the ratio varies by domain.
2. **The Attractor.** Defensible version: attractor-like behavior (hibernation, reversal failure, convergence). Speculative version: Omega Point, Wheeler, Whitehead. Three observationally equivalent interpretations acknowledged honestly.
3. **The Game Nobody Can Quit.** AI development as prisoner's dilemma. Montreal Protocol as sole success — with 5 conditions that don't apply to AI. Moloch as incentive structure villain. Unilateralist's curse.
4. **What Agriculture Actually Cost.** Skeletal evidence of health decline. Neolithic demographic paradox. Domestication syndrome. Language as first technology dependency with Sapir-Whorf evidence. Biological ratchet: mitochondria, ERVs, Oxygen Catastrophe.
5. **The Meaning Problem.** Vervaeke's meaning crisis as pre-existing collapse. Deaths of despair data. Psychology of surrender. Ethics of inevitable harm across frameworks. Eastern philosophy (Buddhist non-attachment, Daoist wu wei, Ubuntu, ikigai). Seven concrete recommendations.
6. **The Identity Compilation.** Hard Problem, IIT phi, Chinese Room updated for LLMs. Collective intelligence without consciousness. Buddhist no-self as resolution. Dead internet problem. "Comfortable extinction" scenario.
7. **The Timeline.** Infrastructure threshold prediction: 2027-2031. Cost curves: 99.5% drop in 17 months. 10-15% AI winter probability. Near-term existential risk (Ord's 1-in-6). Digital durability paradox. Consolidated timeline with confidence percentages.
## Research Infrastructure
- **142 unique scholars** extracted across the corpus (Bostrom 15 mentions, Maguire 9, Wheeler 7)
- **175 unified bibliography items** ranked by relevance and frequency
- **4 contradiction topics** detected (knowledge unification vs statistical homogenization, cognition commodity vs token mimicry, teleological attractor vs unfalsifiable retrocausality, efficiency frees time vs Jevons expansion)
- **10 strongest challenges** ranked and scored against the series' claims
- **4 emergent themes** not in original questions (civilizational lock-in, economic concentration, epistemic reliability, governance/agency)
## What Could Come Next
1. **Paper 016+ direction.** The emergent themes (lock-in, concentration, epistemic reliability, governance) are unexplored as standalone papers.
2. **Revision pass.** Papers 009-015 were written in parallel from research — a coherence/continuity pass could tighten cross-references.
3. **The 009-boundary-conditions.md question.** Early draft from Codex/Gemini agent — superseded by 009-the-stochastic-parrot-problem but may contain salvageable ideas.
4. **Publication/sharing.** Repo is public at `git.sethpc.xyz/Seth/VIBECODE-THEORY`.
